           The definition of modern leaping may be different for every individual. A dictionary would define it as a form of contemporary theatrical and concert spring employing a circumscribed technique for developing the use of the full organic structure in movements expressive of abstract ideas. This definition in full explains what it is when it was introduced in the late 1800s. Isadora Duncan and Loie Fuller are examples of independent women who performed dickens different types of dance, yet lived the same idea of women being in charge and not holding back.  Loie Fuller had grown up surrounded by country dancing and music, which was the beginning foundation of who she became. She had performed in a number of theatrical plays, which helped further her career to be successful. In one of them she was wearing a long skirt pinned up between her breasts, and was holding up the sides of the skirt letting it black market behind her. She ran about the stage, swirling the fabric more or less her. After this dance she experimented with choreographing her own dance with a large piece of silk, in front of a full length mirror.
She came to discover that to each one movement caused certain ripples and shimmerings in the silk, and by controlling her bodys movements she could sculpt the fabric into abstract configurations that moved around her. (Sommer)
