Through his musical, lyrical and allusive language, he sometimes hale the reader to sympathise with him rather than Lolita. It took me great effort to maintain myself from Humbert and prevent his justifications and excuses for his sins from influencing me.
I always had to remember, that I could not all judge the characters based on Humberts description as he described them in a way that make him look superior to the others. Moreover, I found his habit of acting with the names of the characters very annoying. For example, he addressed Valeria as Valechka and her lover Maximovich as Taxovich. By giving them such flat looking names, he made it seem as if Valeria and Maximovich were unimportant characters with no distinctive attributes per se. He demeaned the characters through his descriptions. He never gave them the aloofness and the time to prove themselves. Even before he came to deal them entirely, he would pass his judgements. In other words, Humbert to me was a indefinable man who lacked a conscience.
