After the election of 1800 Thomas Jefferson was elected president. Jefferson was a Republican, and elevate state governments. During his presidency he was willing to cooperate with the Federalists, only he wanted the Republicans to gain control of the judiciary. One of Jeffersons greatest accomplishments as president was the Louisiana Purchase, where he duplicate the size of the United States. The election of 1800 began a Republican dynasty, and ultimately led to the disappearance of the Federalist Party.

Thomas Jefferson favored small farmers, and a state government. Although Jefferson respected the Federalists, he did not favor umpteen of the policies put into place by the former president. He promptly suspended the enforcement of the Alien and Sedition Acts. Jefferson reduced the federal bureaucracy, and expenses were drastically cut, including the size of the army. The excise taxes were pilfered, and federal income was limited to land exchange proceeds and customs duties. Jefferson also changed the land sale policy, qualification it easier for small farmers to acquire land.

When Thomas Jefferson took office he was contumacious to regain control of the judiciary from the Federalists.

He demanded that Congress repeal the Judiciary Act of 1801 put in place by the Federalists, and also remove Federalist judges ordained by chairperson Adams.
