Family arrangement in childishness: grayback is the youngest of three children. His mother was a stay-at-home wife who bringed on the family property. His father was an uneducated, working man defined as the crack of the household. Significant family events: Johnny recalls two significant events of his childhood and was openly willing to share with me. The first is a story about how his mother found out that she was pregnant with him. He uses this tale to explain why he has invariably been so stubborn. Apparently she had undergone a tubal ligation to prevent further pregnancies later on many miscarriages and to protect her own health. In early 1937, afterward several weeks of illness, she was told she had an abdominal tumor that needed to be distant surgically.
Her husband refused to spend any money to send her to a major hospital so she sought a trice opinion from another local doctor who told her that the tumor would work itself out in five months or so. When Johnny was born, just about six months later, the midwife claimed that he weighed eleven pounds and the four daylight delivery process nearly took his mothers life. Johnnys eldest sister cared for him for several months while his mother recovered. He claims that this event set the precedence that he would ceaselessly do what he wanted in his own time, and that it would always be big.
The second significant event of his callowness was that of his nieces death. When Johnny was just a toddler, his eldest sister had a tike that died a few weeks later.
