Ethnic Groups and Discrimination Throughout my life I have continuously been told that it has been hard for African Americans in the United States to be authorized as an equal. When I was younger I did not tell apart what that comment meant but as I got older I soon learned what it meant when people said that comment. With all the bill courses I have taken throughout my school long time and to actually witnessing for myself, I knew then that African Americans came far in life. At moment that is when I knew that it was an honor to be an African American woman in the United States. In 1619 the commencement African Americans came to Jamestown, Virginia, who was sold as buckle downs to work on tobacco plant and cotton farms ( U.S. Slave Trade, 2008). During the course of slavery African American had to endure harsh conditions as slaves. One of the harsh conditions that the slave had to endure was the treatment by their owner. The slaves owners would vex them with a leash if the owner felt that their slaves were out of distribution channel or didnt follow the rules ( Africans in America, 2003). After the slaves were shell several of them died and several of them was left with scars that were permanent. All of the slaves denied access to qualifying at night and to be seen talking to an early(a) psyche of a different race.

Once slavery ended in the United States it did not mean that African Americans was looked at as equals, they still was looked down at by several otherwisewise people. After slavery ended African Americans was segregated from other people who was not of color. Segregation began in the United States in the 1880s with a Florida law that prohibited African Americans from go in the same train cars as whites; while other states, primarily in the South, adopted similar laws that applied to sundry(a) public facilities ( McGill, Sara, 2009).
